U.N. Secretary-General Trygve Lie today invited Israel to participate in a United Nations scientific conference on the use and conservation of the world’s resources. This is the first U.N. parley to which Israel has been invited.
The conference will – pen a three-week session at Lake Success on August 17. One of its main objectives is the exchange of technical information for using the planet’s wealth to enrich man’s living standards. Among the specific aspects of resource use which have been suggested to Israel as subjects for scientific papers are: the Jordan Valley water power and irrigation project; desalination of water; use of sub-soil in the Negev; extraction of chemicals from the Dead Sea; fish-farming; and the use of vegetable raw materials for the production of meat-type proteins.
