The contributions of the Supreme Court of Israel to the legal formulation of the basic conceptions of human rights were called “significant,” in a report issued here today by the United Nations.
“The Israel Supreme Court,” the report said, “continues to be an effective guardian of the individual who feels that his legal rights have been infringed by the Government. It is furthermore performing an important service in re-adapting–within the limits of judicial power–the mandatory precedents to the requirements of an independent State.”
The report also praises the Israel Parliament for permitting debate upon any subject to which the responsible Minister replies. It emphasizes that members of the Cabinet in Israel must answer questions in Parliament orally, and the questioner is permitted to pose a short supplementary question arising out of the reply.
