United Nations truce chief Maj. Gen. E.L.M. Burns demanded today that a UN official who killed a 14-year-old boy in a traffic accident in this city be granted diplomatic immunity. This is the fifteenth traffic accident involving UN personnel. Four accidents have ended in deaths, but no UN personnel have ever been prosecuted.
The Israeli police, who detained Maxim Cailleaux, have agreed to release him if Gen. Burns gives his personal guarantee that M. Cailleaux does not leave the country until the police complete their investigation of the case. M. Cailleaux refused to give any testimony when brought before an examining magistrate.
