A United Nations plano was forced down today in Israel after violating regulations governing air navigation over the territory of the Jowish state.
The United Nations aircraft was apprehended well boyond the established “air corridor,” near Haifa, by an Israel fightor which was sent up specially to warn the offonding pilot. After the U.N. pilot refused to obey the usual signals, the Israel pilot fired a warning burst and finally compolled him to land at Lydda airport, where the breach of regulations was recorded and a protest was immediately filed with U.N. headquarters in Israel.
It is understood that the offending plane did not intend to land in Israel, but was simply crossing Israel territory on route to the Kalandia airport in Arab-held Jorusalem. After his breach of regulations was registered at Lydda, the U.N. pilot was permitted to proceed to his destination.
