One of the major proposals made by Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold and Maj. Gen. E.L.M. Burns, with the backing of the United States, Britain and France, for easing tensions between Israel and Egypt in the Nitzana-El Auja demilitarized zone is a suggestion that United Nations observers under Gen. Burns put up fresh markers along the boundary between the two countries in that area.
According to the proposal, members of Gen. Burns’ staff would mark the boundaries without being accompanied by either Israel or Egyptian representatives. Egypt is expected to reject the proposal.
