Secretary-General U Thant held separate conferences here today with Israel’s permanent representative, Ambassador Gideon Rafael, then with Egypt’s opposite number, Ambassador Mohamed Awad El Kony.
In his conference with Mr. Rafael, the Secretary-General indicated he may announce tomorrow his appointee to the post of special representative on the situation of Jerusalem. It was believed that Mr. Rafael had agreed, on behalf of the Israel Government, on the name of the representative to be appointed and on the procedures under which that official will act.
