Secretary General U Thant, who recently sent a special mission to Israel and Jordan to probe Israel’s complaints to him about a month-long series of attacks by Jordanian troops against Israel border patrols along virtually the entire Israel-Jordan frontier, conferred here today with Israel’s Ambassador Michael S. Comay about the report he has received from that mission.
The meeting took place after Mr. Thant had issued a brief report about the mission, in which he stated that he hoped both governments concerned, Jordan and Israel, would “do their best to avoid future incidents and to maintain quiet along their borders.” Today’s talk, it was said, was “a continuation” of the mission’s work. One of the two members of the special team, Pier Spinelli, attended the conference, along with Undersecretary Ralph J. Bunche, who is in charge of special political affairs on the highest Secretariat level, and Lt, Col, Yacov Monbaz of Israel’s permanent delegation here.
