U.N. Secretary-General Trygve Lie is expected shortly to call a meeting of the preparatory commission of the International Refugee Organization, which will draw up machinery for the IRO’s operations. The commission will be composed of all states which are signatories to the IRO constitution.
By the end of this week it is anticipated that eight states will have signed the constitution, thus creating the preparatory commission. The aim of the sponsor states is to have the IRO functioning by June 30, 1947 when UNRRA will cease its activities on behalf of refugees and displaced persons.
