U.N. Secretary-General Kofi Annan urged Israel and the Palestinian Authority to maintain a shaky cease-fire despite a fresh outbreak of violence. “It is important that the parties have the courage and strength to deal with” setbacks and “do not allow the breaches to derail the cease-fire,” Annan said after meeting with Syrian President Bashar Assad in Damascus.
