The United Nations Security Council will meet Friday afternoon to consider the protest lodged by Egypt against Israel in connection with the clash in the Gaza area. It is understood that Israel will submit a request to the Security Council to add to its agenda an item on Egypt’s violations of the armistice agreement.
In its request today for an urgent meeting of the Security Council, Egypt charged that Israel armed forces committed “violent and premeditated aggression” inside Egyptian-controlled territory near Gaza. The Egyptian complaint said that 39 Egyptians were killed and 32 wounded in the Gaza clash, and charged Israel with violating the Egyptian-Israel armistice pact.
Dr. Omar Loutfi, head of the Egyptian delegation at the UN, was seeking today from members of the Council advance agreement on a resolution which would not only condemn Israel for its “aggression” against Egypt but also would call for Israel payment of “reparations” for the deaths, injuries and damage to property caused by the alleged Israel attack.
Reports reaching here from Gaza state that for the second successive day Arab refugees have rioted outside UN truce headquarters in that city, apparently incensed over Monday’s battle along the border.
