The United Nations Trusteeship Council is scheduled to vote tomorrow on the completed draft of an international statute for Jerusalem. The paragraph-by-paragraph third reading on the statute was completed last Friday.
In addition to the vote on the statute, the Council is slated to consider a proposal by Iraq for the immediate initiation of measures to implement the statute. Observers here consider it highly unlikely that the Council will be able to come to any conclusion over steps for implementation before the session ends this Thursday.
(The Israel Government is addressing a “warning” to the U.N. Trusteeship Council against adoption of a plan for the internationalization of Jerusalem which it said would have no chance for success in the face of Israel’s determined opposition.)
