The General Assembly’s special political committee today adopted by a vote of 38 in favor, no opponents and 19 abstentions a resolution providing for the continuation of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine and Arab Refugees, setting the agency’s budget for 1956 at $26,800,000.
Israel voted for the resolution. The 19 abstentions included all the members of the Arab League bloc here, most of the countries represented in the Asian-African caucus and the Soviet Union and its satellite states. The resolution was sponsored by the United States, Britain and Turkey.
