The U.S. Air Force has concluded contracts for research, projects to be undertaken at the Weizmann Institute of Science at Rehovoth Israel, it is announced by Theodore R. Racoosin, chairman of the executive committee of the American Committee for the Weizmann Institute.
The four Weizmann scientists who will head the U. S. Air Force projects are: Dr. Yigal Talmi and Dr. Gideon Yekutieli of the Nuclear Physics Department; Dr. Samuel Meiboon of the Applied Mathematics Department; and Dr. Joseph H. Jaffe, head of the Infrared Spectroscopy Section. These are the first projects for outside groups which the scientists of the nuclear physics department at the Weizmann Institute have undertaken.
The young physicists, none of whom is over 32 years of age, came into prominence at last year’s International Conference on Nuclear Structure where they presented a number of papers which attested to the originality of their work in the field of nuclear energy, cosmic rays and nuclear magnetic resonance.
