U.S. Ambassador Returns to Israel After a Six-month Absence

United States Ambassador Edward B. Lawson returned to Israel today after a six-month absence. Refusing newsmen’s requests for comment on the political situation, the Ambassador expressed his happiness at being back in Israel and added that there was “no room for exaggerated anxiety.”

Shozo Hotta, special roving Ambassador for Japan, accompanied by Y, Katori, a representative of the Japanese foreign ministry, and two aides, arrived here on an official visit. The visit was described as a “goodwill mission destined to encourage economic ties between the two countries.” During their stay here, Mr. Hotta and Mr. Katori will confer with Premier David Ben Gurion. Foreign Minister Golda Meir, Finance Minister Levi Eshkol and Pinchas Saphir, Minister of Commerce and Industry. Today they called on President Ben Zvi.
