U.S. ambassador to Israel Edward Walker Jr. failed to show up for a reception honoring the new wing at the Tel Aviv Museum after aides learned that a fugitive helped pay for it. Charges are pending in the United States against Marc Rich, who fled the United States in 1983 after being charged with tax evasion and doing business with Iran in the face of U.S. sanctions. Rich is reportedly the single biggest contributor to the arts in Israel.
