The Supreme United States Occupation Appeals Court reduced sentences during the week-end on three Germans charged with damaging a synagogue at Martktreditz, Bavaria, on Sept. 26, 1949. Sentences of 10 months on Max Dressel and Hans Riess were reduced to four months each, and a four-month sentence on August Riess was suspended. The Appeals Court also rejected the lower court’s finding that the three men desecrated the synagogue.
Twenty-eight tombstones in the Jewish cemetery in Hemsbach, located near Mannheim, were overthrown and damaged during the week-end, it was reported today. Local police officials are conducting an investigation.
