A U.S. Army spokesman revealed today that the Army has “under consideration” a request by the Israel Army for permission to send Israel Ground, Air Force and General Staff officers to U.S. military schools.
In response to a query on American Army policy toward the Israel Army, the Pentagon today made public the text of a letter from Col. Francis J. Graling, Army foreign liaison officer, to Col. Efraim Ben Arzi, military attache of the Israel Embassy here. The letter, which acknowledged Israel’s request, reads:
“Your letter of 20th July 1949 which included a list of courses requested by the Defense Army of Israel has been received. Your request for vacancies at U.S. Army school will be taken under consideration and as soon as I have an answer I will communicate further with you. In the meantime, for your information, the entire matter of training foreign nationals at U.S. Army service schools is under consideration. We have had numerous requests worldwide and at the present time are reviewing the entire situation in the light of our capacity to provide such training.”
