U.S. Asks Exemption of Nationals from New Reich Curb on Jews

Secretary of State Cordell Hull confirmed at his press conference today that Prentiss Gilbert, Charge d’Affaires of the American Embassy in Berlin, acting under general orders, had yesterday made representations to the German Foreign Office asking assurances that American citizens would be exempted from a decree cancelling the licenses of Jewish dentists, druggists and veterinarians. No reply has been received as yet. The decree was promulgated Jan. 17, effective Jan. 31.
