U.S. Assistant Secretary for Near East Meets with Ben Gurion

George Allen, newly appointed Assistant Secretary of State for Near Eastern Affairs, met former Premier David Ben Gurion today at Tiberias, where Mr. Ben Gurion is vacationing. Mr. Allen, who is visiting Israel and various Arab countries en route to Washington from New Delhi, his last post, was accompanied by American Ambassador Edward B. Lawson. The meeting today was unofficial.

Mr. Allen is scheduled to meet with Premier Moshe Sharett and Foreign Ministry officials in Jerusalem tomorrow. He will be given a reception by Ambassador Lawson, Premier Sharett and members of his Cabinet have been invited to attend the affair.

Mr. Allen came to Tiberias from Ras el Nakura, on the Lebanese border, where he was met by Embassy officials. At Ras el Nakura he attended a meeting of the Israel-Lebanese Mixed Armistice Commission which dealt with routine questions. Later, he had brief discussions with the delegations of Israel and Lebanon.
