The immediate release from prison of eight convicted German war criminals “for good behavior” was announed today by U.S. occupation authorities. The Germans include Otto Dietrich, former Nazi press chief; Friedrich Flick, one of the top Nazi industrialists; and Richard Darre, former Nazi Minister of Agriculture.
Convicted by war crimes tribunals to seven-year jail terms, the eight included also Fritz Termeer, Rudolph Lehmann and Curt Rothenberger, who were found guilty of crimes against humanity. Darre, who is now 55, was responsible for the rounding up of thousands of Jewish and other workers for slave labor.
