The release of high ranking Nazi war criminals by the American authorities in Germany will be possible from now on without revealing their names under a new policy announced here by the American High Commissioner.

In announcing the new policy, the American High Commission disclosed that 84 German war criminals have been released on parole since last fall from Landesberg prison, in the American zone. It was also disclosed that the Western Powers have proposed to the Soviet authorities in Germany that seven top Nazis to be released from Spandau prison in Berlin, which is controlled by the Big Four Powers.

In asking the Soviet authorities to consider the release of the seven Nazis who were Hitler’s right-hand men, the Western Powers acted in response to an appeal from West German Chancellor Konrad Adenauer, it was stated. The seven top Nazis were sentenced in 1946 by the International Military Tribunal at Nuremberg. They include Baron Konstantin von Neurath, former Nazi Foreign Minister and “protector” of Czechoslovakia; Erich Raeder, former Grand Admiral; Rudolf Hess, former Deputy Fuehrer; Walther Funk, Reichsbank president; Albert Speer, Munitions Minister; Hitler Youth leader Baldur von Schirach; and former Grand Admiral Karl Doenitz.
