Bavaria should continue to make indemnification payments to victims of the Nazis despite the investigation, which is now going on, of the activities of Dr. Philip Auerbach, former head of the Bavarian Restitution Office who is in jail, charged with fraud, George N. Shuster, American High Commissioner for Bavaria, today told a press conference here.

Dr. Shuster said that he had invited Bavarian Government officials to discuss the situation with him, since “obviously even persons legally entitled to indemnification were rejected since the police started the investigation” of Dr. Auerbach. Meanwhile, the Bavarian Tax Office officially reported today that Dr. Auerbach earned 1,200,000 Deutschemarks “through illegal operations.”
