American diplomats from nine Middle Eastern countries including Israel are attending the conference in Cairo at which more than 50 members of the U.S. diplomatic service are discussing American policy in the Middle East, it was revealed here today in a cable from Egypt.
(In Tel Aviv, U.S. Ambassador James G. McDonald denied reports that he has been attending the conference of the American diplomats in Cairo. He said that he has not been out of Tel Aviv recently.)
The Arab refugee question and the Clapp report on American aid for the economic development of Israel and the Arab countries are among the major questions undr discussion at the Cairo parley, the report from Egypt said, quoting U.S. Ambassador Jefferson Caffery to this effect. Ambassador Caffery is presiding over the conference which is also being attended by a staff of 15 members of the State Department who arrived from Washington.
