Edward B. Lawson, United States Ambassador to Israel, visited Prime Minister David Ben Gurion at the latter’s home last night to discuss Israel’s refusal to complete its withdrawal from the Sinai area, it was learned authoritatively today.
According to the report, the visit to Mr. Ben Gurion’s home, where the Prime Minister is recovering from pneumonia, was arranged at the urgent request of the American envoy.
A special meeting of the Cabinet will be held in the next day or two, also at Mr, Ber Gurion’s home, to consider the United Nations General Assembly resolutions demanding Israel withdrawal from Egyptian territory and to hear reports from Abba Eban, Israel delegate to the UN, on his discussions with Secretary General Dag Hammarskjold in reference to the resolutions.
The Israel Parliament will hold a full-dress debate next week on the resolutions. It is anticipated that the government, represented by Mr. Ben Gurion, will open the debate with an outline of its plans to meet the consequences which Israel may have to face because of its refusal to move from positions in the Akaba and Gaza areas in the absence of specific guarantees. Mr. Ben Gurion’s statement is expected to be influenced by Mr. Eban’s reports from the United Nations.
