Governor John S. Fine of Pennsylvania, now in Europe following a visit to Israel to survey programs in both areas supported through the United Jewish Appeal, has informed friends in this country that “relations between Israel and the United States are based on ideals held in common and are too deep rooted to be strained by temporary tensions.”
The Governor expressed particular satisfaction with the way both American grants-in-aid and funds of the United Jewish Appeal are being expended in Israel, asserting his “belief that the American taxpayer and the American contributor are getting their money’s worth.”
The Pennsylvania Governor noted especially the Israel Government’s deep concern with the care of Christian holy places, and after a visit to the Church of Annunciation in Nazareth said that “the Israel Government treats Christian shrines with reverence and dignity.”
