“It is in the interests of the United States to lift the ban on travel to Israel and in general re-establish normalcy in trade and economic relations with Israel; otherwise, other nations and their transport and business corporations will move in,” Harry Torczyner, General Counsel of the American-Israel Chamber of Commerce an Industry, declared today, addressing a members luncheon of the Chamber at the Hotel Commodore.
The ban on travel, Mr. Torczyner said, “should be lifted at once as it is not warranted by the facts, and the normal trade relations between Israel and the United States should be re-established without further delay.” He said that the elimination of the Fedayeen nests in the Sinai Peninsula and in the Gaza Strip has improved security conditions in Israel to such an extent that they are the best since 1948. “The unblocking of the Gulf of Akaba” he stated, “creates a unique opportunity for the development of maritime and commercial relations between Israel and East Africa and the Far East across the Red Sea.”
