U.S. Government Consents to Sale of Israel Bonds in America; Morgenthau to Leave U.J.A.

The United States Government has consented to the distribution of Israel bonds in America, it was announced here today by Finance Minister Eliezer Kaplan, upon his return from New York.

Mr. Kaplan said that Henry Morgenthau, Jr., is resigning as general chairman of the United Jewish Appeal and that Dr. Joseph Schwartz, European director of the J.D.C., will be appointed director of the U.J.A. to succeed Henry Montor. The Israel Finance Minister also said that he brought back from the United States two investment propositions, one dealing with chemical projects and the other with building projects.

An assembly plant for Kaiser-Frazer vehicles manufactured in the United States will start operations next month on a site near Haifa, it was announced today. The bulk of the plant’s production for 1951 has already been sold to Lebanon, it was learned. The plant will employ in its first stages up to 400 workers. It is expected to turn out 20 cars daily.
