The United States Government signed a contract with Bar-Ilan University, the American-patterned university in Israel, for the establishment of a Chair of American Studies, it was announced here today by Rabbi Joseph H. Look-stein, chairman of the University’s Academic Council.
The chair will be underwritten by a grant of 100,000 Israeli pounds from local currency accumulated in Israel by the United States under its currency guarantee for American publishers who sell books, magazines and technical publications in Israel. The grant is part of a multi-million dollar program of the American Government to aid Israeli cultural and educational institutions.
