The B’nai B’rith today called on Secretary of State Dean Acheson to seek assurances from the Syrian Government that outrages against the Jewish population of that Arab state would be guarded against. The organization specifically cited last Saturday’s bombing of a synagogue in Damascus.
In a telegram to the Secretary of State, Frank Goldmann, B’nai B’rith president, expressed the hope that “the United States Government will intervene on humanitarian grounds to seek binding assurances from the Syrian Government that the families of the victims will be compensated, that the guilty will be punished and that steps will be taken to prevent similar outrages in the future.”
