Discriminatory application of trade quotas to American concerns engaged in trade with Palestine is expected to be remedied in the near future, following representations by the United States to the British Government a States Department spokesman said today.

Complaints have been received by the Department from a half-dozen American firms of British refusal to grant import licenses. These severs controls have been the subject of discussion for several months between the American Embassy in London and the British Board of Trade.

The Anglo-American loan agreement of July 15, 1946, in article 9, provided for actually non-discriminatory import quotas, with permission for the British to put article 9 into effect after Dec. 31, 1946, in order to provide foreign exchange for basic necessities. It is pointed out at the State Department that success of the American representations will not mean removal of quotas, but of their restriction publication to American business firms.
