The United States Public Health Service awarded the Hillside Hospital here a research grant of more than $250,000 for the next three years to study brain function on human behavior, it was announced here today. Hillside Hospital is a member of the New York Federation of Jewish Philanthropies.
The grant has been made to Dr. Max Fink, director of the Department of Experimental Psychiatry, as principal investigator of the research project. Based on previous studies this project was begun in 1958 with federal aid. The new grant makes it possible to continue the study through 1963.
Last month Hillside announced similar grants totaling $42,000 to intensify the hospital’s current studies into the chemical changes in the body that accompany mental disorders. This project is now underway in the Hospital’s Department of Biochemistry under the direction of Dr. Harry Goldenberg and Dr. Vivian Fishman.
