An organization to coordinate the Jewish defense activities of American Jewry’s four major bodies has been established, it was announced today, with Edgar J. Kaufmann of Pittsburgh as temporary chairman. The group took its first official step by sending a cable of greeting to Myron C. Taylor, American delegate at the Evian refugee-aid conference.
“The American Jewish Committee, the American Jewish Congress, the B’nai B’rith and the Jewish Labor Committee, at a joint meeting of representatives of their respective organizations held in New York on July 7, take notice of the inter-governmental conference now being held at Evian-Les-Bains, France, and wish it success in finding an effective and speedy solution of the refugee problem, in which the whole world is deeply concerned,” The message said.
The meeting, which was held at the Hotel St. Regis with 19 representatives of the four organizations attending, and Mr. Kaufmann. presiding, discussed an organization plan and appointed various committees, which will report at a meeting to be held on Aug. I.
