Execution of the death sentences imposed 26 months ago at the Nuremberg trials against top Nazi war criminals will be carried out soon in view of findings of the Senate Investigation Committee in the United States, it was announced here today by John J. McCloy, American High Commissioner for Germany. The execution of 16 high Nazi officials charged, among other crimes, with responsibility for the extermination of millions of Jews, was delayed during Commissioner McCloy’s recent visit to the U.S. Leo Althocher, chairman of the Jewish Community of Ludwigshafen, announced today that the German Government has promised to allocate 80,000 marks for the building of a new synagogue in the city to replace the synagogue destroyed by the Nazis in November, 1938. However, the money will be used for the erection of a home for the Jewish aged.
Wilbeim Fischer, former mayor of Corbach, was arrested today on charges of participating in the destruction of the synagogue in Hellenthal, near Aachen, in November, 1938. He will be tried in a German court considering crimes against humanity.
