The State Department said today that the U.S. is “in touch with the principal concerned governments, including Israel” whose nationals are being held hostage by the hijackers of an Air France jet at Entebbe Airport in Uganda. Department spokesman Robert Funseth said, however, that he was “not going into the substance” of the affair. Asked about U.S. contacts with the hijackers. Funseth said “Our policy is well known and it remains unchanged.” U.S. policy is not to have any dealings with terrorists or hijackers.
