American poet Robert Frost paid warm tribute today to Israel’s achievements in absorbing and integrating immigrants from many countries. Mr. Frost, who came to Israel as a guest of the Hebrew University under the lectureship established by the Samuel Paley Foundation of Philadelphia, told the press that he was proud of America’s interest and support of Israel. He said the world must be grateful there is such a place as Israel, a refuge for immigrants from many countries.
The 85-year-old poet addressed an overflow audience earlier this week, when he also gave readings of his poetry. He was received by President and Mrs. Izhak Ben-Zvi, and met with the country’s outstanding educators and writers. He said he was particularly interested in the archaeological sites he visited during his stay, since, he said, he was “brought up on lots of Bible.”
