Five major national Jewish organizations today took issue vigorously with Cardinal Spellman’s demand for federal aid for church schools. In a statement, the American Jewish Congress, the Jewish Labor Committee, the Jewish War Veterans of the U.S.A., the Union of American Hebrew Congregations and the United Synagogue of America said that such aid would violate the U.S. Constitution.
