Leading Jewish organizations will honor West Germany’s outstanding, anti-Nazi clergyman, 71-year-old Rev. Dr. Heinrich Grueber, Lutheran dean of Berlin, who is coming to the United States tomorrow for a two-week visit. Dean Grueber was the only Christian clergyman to appear in Israel as a witness against the late Adolf Eichmann. He opposed Hitler’s anti-Semitism during the war, and had been put into a concentration camp.
On Wednesday, he will be honored at a dinner to be tendered for him by the American Jewish Committee, and the next day he will be guest of honor at a luncheon to be given by the World Jewish Congress and American Jewish Congress. Friday morning, he is scheduled to visit the headquarters of the Theodor Herzl Institute, and that evening he will visit the Scarsdale Temple, in suburban Westchester County.
Other events on his schedule are a reception by the American Federation of Jews from Central Europe and the Leo Baeck Institute; the award of an honorary degree at the New York school of the Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion; and a reception by the National Conference of Christians and Jews.
