Jewish leaders here may not attend a reception arranged in honor of Austrian Chancellor Julius Raab as an expression of protest against Austria’s stand on the question of settling the claims of Jews who suffered under the Nazi regime in Austria.
The reception, which is to take place at the Hotel Plaza December 2, will be given by the board of directors of Freedom House. Numerous Jewish leaders who received invitations have indicated a reluctance to attend the affair since Chancellor Raab, who is now visiting the United States, has not offered any encouragement of a favorable settlement of the negotiations which have been conducted for more than 18 months by the Committee for Jewish Claims on Austria.
