The Jewish Agency announced today that American Jews interested in going to Israel, now that the travel ban has been lifted by the U.S. Government, should get in touch with its immigration department here.
“Israel welcomes all Jews, tourists and students, farmers and agricultural workers, mechanics and professionals, middle class and retired families, “a Jewish Agency spokesman said. “We are at the disposal of any person or group that is diestrous to go to Israel. We are in a position to supply all necessary information as well as counsel.
“There are available many positions in Israel for skilled workers and professional people,” he continued. “Men and women who want to settle on farms are especially wanted. Individuals with ‘know-how’ are needed either as temporary residents or as permanent settlers. The Agency is in a position to supply full details about these matters.
“Israel offers good opportunities to middle class people who are prepared to live in the country. Our department can furnish them with specific proposals suitable to their needs,” the spokesman explained. “Retired people with some means can live in pleasant surroundings in Israel. The plans to develop special shikunim for these types of residents are well advanced,” he added.
The Jewish Agency also announced that with the cancellation of the travel ban to Israel of United States citizens, the ninth annual Israel Summer Institute will be held this summer as scheduled. It is planned that the participants in the Institute tour proceed to Israel in three groups from New York. The first will sail on the S/S Israel of the Zim Israel America Line on June 20; the other two will travel by air, leaving New York on June 30 and July 7, respectively. Registration for this tour will be kept open till May 1.
The Israel Summer Institute, conducted by the Agency’s Youth Department, is open to Americans and Canadians between 18 and 30 years of age. It offers a seven week stay in Israel with a program of extensive guided tours, lectures, courses, orientation sessions, social events and a period at a typical agricultural settlement, the Jewish Agency explained. The tour price of $795 per person includes round-trip transportation, maintenance and the full program in Israel, the Jewish Agency stated.
