A warning that American Jews should not altogether delegate their religious and cultural responsibilities to their coreligionists in Israel was voiced here last night by Prof. Salo W. Baron, of Columbia University, addressing the annual convention of the Middle Atlantic section of the Jewish Welfare Board.
“Jewish living as a religious minority essentially differs from the way of Life in a Jewish state,” he declared. “It will be up to American Jewish leadership to build over new creative forms of life not only for this country, but at least also for the entire Western Hemisphere and the countries of the British Empire. By delineating each other’s spheres, Israel and American Jewry can surely work together for the enhancement of Jewish culture and the enrichment of all human culture,” he added.
