The first Jewish chaplain to serve with the United States Marine Corps, Chaplain Leon Wolf Rosenberg, this week reported for duty at a West Coast station, the Jewish Welfare Board announced today.
Heretofore, Jewish servicemen in the Marines have been served by either Navy chaplains or civilian rabbis in communities adjacent to Marine Corps bases. Chaplain Rosenberg’s appointment brings the number of rabbis serving with the armed forces to 189, of whom 25 are in the Navy.
