The American Military Government and the local German administration in the Bremen area are not enforcing the Allied Control Commission decrease on restitution of confiscated Jewish property, Karl Katz, president of the local Jewish community council, which also takes in Bremerhaven and other smaller towns, told the Jewish Telegraphic Agency.
Katz said that half of the 200 Jews comprising the community he heads wish to emigrate, but that has been impossible up to now. However, an American consulate opened here yesterday. The chief problems, according to Katz, who together with his wife and daughter spent two years in Theresienstadt, have been lack of food and clothing, although there has been some improvement lately.
