An American military delegation began talks with Israeli officials here this week on the scope of U.S. military aid to Israel in the calendar year 1987. The talks take place annually.
The American delegation, headed by Undersecretary of State William Schneider and Gen. Philip Gast, consists of army personnel and officials representing the other branches of the U.S. armed forces. They met with Defense Minister Yitzhak Rabin and held discussions with an Israeli military team headed by Menachem Meron, Director General of the Defense Ministry.
Schneider and Gast are scheduled to meet with Premier Shimon Peres, Deputy Premier and Foreign Minister Yitzhak Shamir and Finance Minister Yitzhak Modai.
Meanwhile, the Americans are touring Israel Defense Force installations and defense-related industries such as Israel Aircraft Industries (IAI), the Rafael armaments development authority and the Merkava tank production line. They are also visiting air bases and will witness the annual Air Force Day observance today.
