Secretary of Interior Oscar L. Chapman announced today that Don I. Carroll, of Kensington, Md., a bureau of mines technologist, will leave for Tel Aviv about December 26 on a two-year Point Four assignment to serve as minerals resources adviser to the Technical Cooperation Administration director in Israel.
Mr. Carroll will assist the Israel Government in planning an extended program for exploration and development of the country’s mineral resources. He will work with Israel technicians to study and evaluate the possibilities for furthering economic expansion through development of feasible minerals resources.
The technologist served as a member of an E. C. A. mission in Korea from October, 1949, until the outbreak of the Korean War, after which he was loaned to the United States Air Force for civilian duty in the Far East until December, 1950. He spent most of 1951 and 1952 in Bolivia appraising the petroleum and other mineral resources east of the Andes Mountains for the export-import Bank and private interests.
