Unloading and distribution of the first 37 truckloads of clothing collected in America for Hungarian Jews was begun here today by the Joint Distribution Committee. The occasion was marked by a ceremony attended by Hungarian and American Government officials and representatives of the Jewish community.
Leaders of the Jewish community thanked the Americans for the large consignment of clothing, and their aid in general, and expressed the gratitude of the Jews to the Hungarian Government for providing the trucks. American Minister Arthur F. Schoenfeld declared that the United States was “eager” to heal the scars of war. The Hungarian Government was represented by Dr. Eric Molnar, Minister of Public Welfare, and other prominent officials.
