The immigration question is more important in the eyes of America than the League of Nations. Secretary of Labor Davis says in an article written for the London Evening News, according to an Associated Press dispatch today.
“The flood of humanity – this inchoate mixture of racial prejudice – threatens American civilization.” the Secretary wrote and he asks how long the British government would tolerate an annual invasion of 357,000 aliens. “Let it be understood that we will not be a dumping ground for Europe’s undesirables. Ellis Island”, he goes on to say further, “is a reasonably comfortable though often too maligned barrier”.
