Commander Elmo R. Hutchinson, United Nations chairman of the Israel-Jordan Mixed Armistice Commission, has been recalled by the United States Navy effective at the end of his present tour of duty with the UN truce staff, UN truce headquarters here announced today. He is expected to relinquish his post next month.
Israel’s withdrawal from the MAC and its policy of non-cooperation with that body since last March was due mainly to what Israel repeatedly charged was blatant pro-Jordan bias on Commander Hutchinson’s part. His recall paves the way for Israel’s return to a policy of cooperation with the commission.
