“American foreign policy in the Middle East is recognized in many parts of the world as one which is characterized by compromise of principle and adoption of diplomatic expediency,” Senator Wayne Morse stated at a dinner for Boys Town Jerusalem held at the Plaza Hotel here.
“It seems to me that our State Department has compromised American historic ideals in the Middle East,” Senator Morse said. “We have paid a price for Arabian oil not only in millions of dollars, but also in the loss of a friend that money cannot buy–namely, our international prestige in those areas of the world where millions of people are struggling for a greater degree of political and economic freedom.”
More than 600 men and women attended the dinner, at which over $125,000 was raised for Boys Town Jerusalem, school for gifted Israeli teen-age boys. The sum raised is part of the current campaign to raise $500,000.
