U.S. PRESS VOICES CONCERN OVER MOUNTING ARAB-ISRAEL TENSION
Leading American newspapers today expressed concern over the deteriorating Arab-Israel situation. The New York Times criticized Israel for the Nahalin raid, and said: “The Russians and the Communists thrive on mischief, and the last thing they would want to do is to stop it. If the Governments of Israel and Jordan cannot act to prevent these organized military attacks, then the future is going to be black indeed, ” the Times said.
The New York Herald Tribune emphasized that danger in the Near East “threatens the entire world. ” It said that “only the most direct, forthright and high-level action of the UN will suffice to restore even a semblance of peace to this area. “
