Rabbi Ahron Opher, on behalf of the Synagogue Council of America, has appealed to the American rabbinate to give special attention to the collection of books and religious articles in the Special Fall Campaign for 6,000,000 pounds of relief supplies of the SOS Collection of the Joint Distribution Committee. In his appeal, Rabbi Opher called upon American’s rabbis to help “in the cultural rabirth of the remnant of European Jewry” by emphasizing in their local SOS food and clothing campaigns the importance also of collecting Yiddish and Hebrew religious texts and novels, short stories, plays, histories and biography, in all languages native to European Jews.
